8th Graders,
I can't believe it, we are actually going to start our first full week together as a class. I am looking forward to it. Here is a quick glance at our week:
Monday- Stretch Routine in Groups
Tuesday- Muscle Quiz/Stretch Routine
Wednesday- Run day
Thursday- Pedometer Activity
Friday- Fitness Day
WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
We are continuing Cooperative Games and PE 101. PE 101 is primarily going to be done as written homework assignments. In fact, HW #4 which was just posted are 2 PE 101 assignments you need to complete. There is a chance that we may go into the "classroom" for some of the activities related to PE 101. Cooperative activities are not only games but also team building activities like stretch leadership responsibilities, equipment leaders process, etc. To see what all of your units are for the year, click here.
WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
On Wednesday, you will be running the MILE. I want to get a good baseline of where your fitness is and what types of improvement we are looking for. Give your best effort. The weather is predicted to be in the low 80's. Be sure you bring a water bottle to school and hydrate. Most students should be able to the complete the mile between 8-10 minutes. Several will finish before that and a few after that. Please do your best. The mile is a great way for me to get an idea of your cardiovascular fitness. Descriptions of all my runs can be found at this link. You will need to fill out your mile run graph and run in log in your Sportfolio as well as your e-Run log on line (see below).
WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
I am not quite sure what your fitness day will be on Friday yet. I am planning on doing an activity called Rob the Nest, which I am hoping to do before Friday. I will announce later in the week what Friday will look like.
DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR E-LOGS?
If not, click here for your e-run log and here for your e-fitness log.
IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
Yes, HW #4 was posted. It is due Wednesday, 9/9 at Roll Call. That gives you 11 days to complete the assignment. It can be hand written or typed. You will be graded according to the 4 point rubric. Also, you need to go to your 8th Grade Page and print out your Strength Training Unit Materials and put behind Tab #3. I will check on Thursday.
ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
Yes, you need to research stretching, push-ups, ab workouts on line and be prepared for your stretch groups tomorrow. I found some good videos on Youtube on partner push-ups. Check this one out, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBrL7GrluBM. This is a great way to do push-ups. Try to find other ideas like this for abs and stretching.
ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS
We have the mile run on Wednesday and planning a group stretch routine this week, be prepared.
