Week of 1/04/10-01/08/19 (2Q-Week 9)

8th Graders,


Well, it is time to start the weekly blogs again. I hope that all of you had a relaxing break and feel re-charged for the 2nd half of the school year. Hard to believe, 2 quarters left and you will be done with middle school. Actually, there are 2 full weeks left of the 2nd quarter and we have a lot to do. Please read all of the blog below. I look forward to seeing you next week.

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
Well, the much anticipated Swing Dance unit is finally here. I can't wait. I love to teach this unit and every year, this is a majority of 8th graders favorite unit. I hope that the Friday before break when you saw the Swing Dance Video, you did not get too intimidated. Most of you will do very well...it will take a lot of practice, but, most 8th graders figure it out.

I put together a Swing Dance Page which I need to read. Also, there is handout (under the "Downloads" section) on this page that you need to print out and put in Tab #3. I will check on Thursday or Friday to make sure that you have printed it out. If you have printer problems, please come see me.

Also, I made a video that I have posted on my website. It is password protected. If you want access to this video page, please send me an email requesting the user id and password and I will be happy to give it to you. The video is good to watch for review as you go along in the unit.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
You will be doing the Figure 8 run for the first time (I think) this year. The Figure 8 run is a good endurance run to do coming off of a long 2 week break. The goal is complete 3 Figure 8 laps and 1 bike trail lap (total of 1.75 miles) in 20 minutes or less. You will need to give me your time when you have finished.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
Your fitness day is undetermined at this point. I am not sure what facility I have scheduled for this Friday. Once I review it with the rest of the staff, I will let you know early in the week.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
No, homework is not assigned this week.

HOMEWORK FINAL EXAM
Next Wednesday, January 13th, you will have a Homework Final Exam. It will include questions about each of the assignments that you have for the 1st and 2nd Quarter. Each assignment had key concepts that I wanted you learn about health, fitness and physical education. This quiz will see how much you learned about these concepts. I will put together a study guide this week and hopefully post at the end of the week.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
Yes, you will have a WOW quiz on Friday. I will be collecting your WOW sheet and do a quick credit/no credit check. Make sure that you go back through previous Blogs to check and make sure you have all of the WOW completed.

There are several Extra Credit Assignments on my Extra Credit Page, check it out. It is time that several of you do some of these extra credit assignments to raise that grade. The quarter will be ending shortly after you get back from break.

Note: All extra credit assignments need to be completed by next Wednesday, January 13th to earn credit for them.
