8th Graders,

Can you believe it, progress reports (deficiency notices) will be mailed out this week. All grades will be updated by Tuesday. I have been working on updating the grades and hope to have all of them done by end of day on Monday. Please keep checking PIV to check grades. If you see any mistakes or have comments/concerns, you need to see me Tuesday. I have added a new section below called, "Extra Credit". Please read through it.

WEEK AT A GLANCE
Monday- Introduction to Strength Training
Tuesday- Introduction the Strength Training
Wednesday- Strength Training (no run day this week)
Thursday- Strength Training
Friday- Fitness Day (see below)

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
This week, we start a new unit called Strength Training. You will have a homework assignment that goes into more detail about what Strength Training is and its benefits (see below under the "Is Homework Assigned This Week" section. My daughter's name is Jillian. We are very fortunate to have a weight room at CMS. At the end of this unit, will have the knowledge to start a strength training program on your own as well as learn weight room etiquette and spotter safety. Make sure that you have your Strength Training Handouts printed out and put behind Tab #3.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
This week, because of the short classes on Monday due to the assembly schedule, we are not going to get out Strength Training Introduction done on Monday, therefore, I am going to have to take an extra day to explain. As a result, I am replacing your run day this week with a Strength Training Day. Plus, Wednesday is projected to be over 100 degrees.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
I will be setting up a Fitness Activity in the gym called the "ABC Workout". It is a tough workout and expect to work hard. Jillian's birthday is June 12th. Do any of you have your birthday on June 12th. By the way, you did a fantastic job in the Rock Wall Circuit. We will continue that circuit in about 6 weeks. Good job!!!

DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR E-LOGS?
THERE IS A NEW POLICY WITH YOUR LOGS. YOU HAVE ONE WEEK AFTER YOUR RUN AND YOUR FITNESS ACTIVITY TO FILL OUT YOUR LOG, OTHERWISE, NO CREDIT. Last week, your run log will be for the Variety Run. Each lap is .25 miles. You total miles depends on how many total laps you did with your team. Your fitness last week was the "Rock Wall Circuit".

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
Yes, you will have to complete a Strength Training Homework assignment. Please go to your 8th Grade Homework page and complete HW #7. It is due on Wednesday, 9/30.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
Yes, you have 3 assignments:
1. Complete HW #6 which is an assignment that covers Fitness Concepts.

2. You need to look up your BMI and record it on page 11 in your Sportfolio. The website for the BMI can be found here. Note: If you print out the page that has a graph and information about your BMI, you will receive 5 extra credit points. Just show it to me and then put it behind page 11 in your Sportfolio.
