8th Graders,
As I am writing this Blog on Saturday night, many of you are celebrating Halloween in your creative costumes. Anyway, we are starting our 2nd week of the 2nd quarter. Every student is starting over with an A. At this point, if you do all of your work, try hard in class, dress out, and show up, you should do fine.
By the way, I totally redesigned your 8th Grade Page. Please click here to check it out.
WEEK AT A GLANCE

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
We are starting 4 week unit of Flag Rugby that will end on November 27th. I taught Flag Rugby 3 years ago and it was a big success. Students ended up loving it. It is important that you read about Flag Rugby to become familiar with what it is, why I am teaching it, rules and objectives. Click here to learn all about it. Also, there is a good video from the founder which I recommend that you watch.
WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
This Wednesday you will be doing the "Figure 8" run. The goal is to complete 4 Figure 8 laps.
WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
We are in the Gym this week. More than likely, we will be doing the ABC workout. It has been a while since we have have worked hard in the gym.
DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR E-LOGS?
e-Run Log: Yes, you need to fill out for the "Partner Mile". Please put total miles as 2 and include the time that you got with your partner.
e-Fitness Log: No, our fitness day was "Free Play" day because of Halloween.
IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
Yes, I posted a homework assignment that will be due on Wednesday, November 11th. The homework assignment is an article and questions about the 5 Fitness Components. Click here to download and complete the assignment.
ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
No, nothing is due this week.
EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS
I am working on my extra page this weekend. My goal, to have it published and ready to go with official extra credit assignments by next week, keep checking.
Extra Credit #1-Make a Mixed Fitness Music CD = 10 points toward Fitness Grade.
Follow the requirements below:
*Every song has to be middle school appropriate-no swear words and no controversial
content.
*The CD has to have AT LEAST 20 songs
*Music has to be be up-tempo and up-beat (slow songs are not good for pumping people
up while working out). Use songs that you and classmates would have fun working out to.
*Make sure the songs are from different artists
Extra Credit #2- Weight Room Poster (10 points)
As you know, the weight room is officially opening to students to work out at lunch on
Tuesday and Thursday. It would be nice to see the weight room decorated with
"Motivational Posters" with some good words of wisdom on it. A good, but cheasy
example would be "No Pain, No Gain". YOU CAN'T USE THIS ONE. Anyway, you would
take the saying and make a good poster worth hanging in the weight room for all
to see. To get full credit, please follow the parameters below:
Parameters:
1. Use construction paper sizes 12"x18" or 18"x24", any color.
2. Find a motivational saying appropriate to strength training and/or fitness. I bet
a google search will produce a lot of results. I encourage you to even come up
with your own.
3. You can write/draw the the saying or print it out on the computer. Just make sure
it can be seen from pretty far away, you want people working out in the gym to
be able to see it.
4. Decorate the poster with images, colors, etc, but don't make it too distracting and
overly crowded.
5. Put your name, period and roll call on back of poster.
6. Include your sources on the back of the poster as well.
Extra Credit #3- Jump Rope Skills
We learned several Jump Roping skills in our last unit. Our last day were a series of
skills that I called, "Sick Tricks". If you practice these skills and become pretty good
at them, you can come in at Brunch or Lunch, anytime, and perform the skill for AT
LEAST one minute, I will give you 5 extra credit points PER skill. Remember, practice
makes perfect.
ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS-Please read through the new Flag Rugby page and get yourself familiar with it. It will help to cut down on time during class to "explain" and can instead spend more time "playing".
RUGBY IS YOUR Word of the Week.
