Week of 8/30/10-9/3/10 (1Q- Week 3)

8th Graders,

This week is our first official week that we will be together for 5 days. I am looking forward to it. Congrats on your mile run on Friday.
WEEK AT A GLANCE

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
For the next couple of weeks, we will be in our Cooperative Activities Unit. We will also be doing our fitness testing during this time.

WHAT UNIT IS COMING UP NEXT?
Your next unit is Strength Training. If you want to download the two handouts for it and get a head start, click here. I hope to update this page this week so that you can read more information about the unit.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
Wednesdays are going to be our run day for this year. We will not have a run this week because I decided to change the Mile from this Wednesday to this past Friday. Instead of a run on Wednesday, we will be doing a cooperative activity.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
Typically, our Fitness Day is on Fridays. This week however, we are going to have Thursday and Friday as our fitness days because you will be conducing your Fitness Testing. Your fitness tests refer to the exercises on page 2-2 in your Sportfolio.

DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR E-RUN LOG?
Most weeks, you will be responsible for filling out an online Run log that relates to the run that you did the previous week. It is important that you fill these out because you will be graded on these Run Logs.

You need to fill out the e-Mile Run Log since you ran the mile last week. You can find the e-Mile Run Log by clicking HERE. This log needs to be completed by the end of day on Wednesday.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
Yes, you need to complete HW #5 which will help you prepare for your Fitness Testing on Thursday and Friday.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
Yes, you need to complete HW #5 by Thursday, the start of Fitness Testing.

I have an Extra Credit Page that always has different types of Extra Credit assignments you can choose from. Be sure to read the criteria for Extra Credit Assignments. I recommend that you check this page regularly, for some of the assignments change.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
Every week, I am going to post a link to an Article of the Week (AOW) that is related to fitness, Physical Education, nutrition, adolescent behavior, etc. You do not have to read this AOW, but, if you choose to, you can go to the Extra Credit Page and look under "Little Ones" and complete the AOW assignment. You can do this ever week. It is worth 2 points every time. I will post the first AOW next week.

LAST MINUTE REMINDERS
-You need to complete HW #5.
-Fix any Sportfolios and get a 5/5 by turning in on Monday.
-If you did not turn the Webquest in, turn it in for half credit.

YOUR WORD OF THE WEEK (WOW)


Go to your WOW Page, click on the 8/30-9/3 WOW and then fill out the WOW template which you need to download from this page. This template will be due on the final week of the quarter. You will have a quiz of all these words.
